The Simpsons…Documentary

From the man who brought us Super-Size Me, comes the new project ““The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special! In 3-D! On Ice!” by Academy Award-nominated documentary director Morgan Spurlock will be at Isotopes Park on Wednesday, August 12 to film portions of his latest project, a special devoted to “The Simpsons” television show and its cultural impact on America.
Given that there were several “Albuquerque Isotopes” references in the two-decade long television series, it makes filming at Isotopes Park a winner. From the moment we didn’t name our minor league team the “Dukes”, I had always raised an eyebrow at most things done at Isotopes Park until this year. In a conversation I had with Isotopes General Manager John Traub, he reminded me that the marketing power of the Isotopes propelled them into one of the best teams in selling merchandise around minor league baseball. In a news release from the team, it says that Spurlock will be on hand throughout that day’s game with the Tacoma Rainiers to capture “The Simpsons” and baseball fans.
The game on that day starts at 12:05 p.m. and any fan who would like to submit a Simpsons story that could be used in the documentary are invited to send anecdotes to RealLifeSimpsons@gmail.com.
In “The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special! In 3-D! On Ice!” Spurlock, who was nominated for an Academy Award in 2005 for his ground-breaking documentary “Super Size Me,” will examine the cultural phenomenon of the The Simpsons in his distinctive and innovative style.
The special will document how the world sees The Simpsons and how the Simpsons family has seen the world for two decades. The special will air on Thursday, January 14, 2010 on FOX.
As being a life long fan of the Simpsons, I will be curious to see how this turns out.
